Saheliyon ki Bari is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Udaipur that attracts a lot of nature lovers. It was built by Maharaja Sangram Singh in the 18th century as he wanted to please his princess. It’s a lavish garden located on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake with beautiful marble fountains, lily ponds, and blossoming flowers.
The garden is named as Saheliyon ki Bari which translates to “Garden of Maids”. This is because the queen along with 48 of her maids used to stroll here and spend some leisure time. It is adorned with a superb architecture rendering a breathtaking view to the spectators.
Saheliyon Ki Bari is adorned with several fountains in its four water pools which also include chiseled kiosks and elephants carved from marble. The lush greenery, blooming flowerbeds, and marble pavilions give the ambiance a romantic feel.
It’s said that in the later years, Maharana Bhopal Singh really liked the place and decided to build a pavilion of rain fountains to form an illusion of rain dancing in cadence with the dancing maids. These fountains were imported from England. The main reservoir has 4 black marble kiosks in the corners and a white marble kiosk at the center. On the top of these kiosks, birds carved of marble stand in the form of fountains with water rushing out from their beaks.
The garden also contains a museum that carries a huge collection of royal households. It has exhibits like ancient pictures of the bygone era and stuffed animals. It’s a kind of a place that you must visit to recollect the historical memoirs and gather information about the lifestyle of the kings and queens of that time.
Saheliyon Ki Bari is a pleasing spot for tired travelers and nature lovers. It’s loved by the city dwellers and tourists alike. Make sure to check out this garden whenever you plan your Rajasthan trip.
