Fateh Sagar Lake

Udaipur, commonly known as the Lake City, is a treat to the eyes owing to the immense beauty that it holds. Whether it’s the regal palaces turned into heritage hotels or the huge mountains surrounding the city, there are numerous attractive features that adorn Udaipur. However, the most noteworthy and highlighting feature of the city is the pool of artificial lakes that it boasts of.

Fateh Sagar Lake, considered as the pride of Udaipur, is one of the artificial lakes which was constructed by Maharana Jai Singh in 1678. It is roughly 1 square km in size and is named after Maharana Fateh Singh, who extended the lake during his reign. Located at the foothill of Moti Magri, this lake is surrounded by humungous mountains on all three sides.

This lake is not just an attractive spot for tourists but it also plays a crucial role in sustaining the water supply of the city. While visiting the Fateh Sagar Lake, there are certain places that one must visit to experience the beauty and aura of Udaipur. The key tourist spots are:

Nehru Park:

The lake flaunts an island named Nehru Park containing lush green gardens, palm trees, and water fountains carved out of marbles. There is a boat-shaped restaurant on the island and a mini zoo which houses a few animals and birds.

Public Park:

The second element of the lake is another park which is beautified with water fountains and a huge lawn area with beautiful flowers.

Solar Observatory:

The Udaipur Solar Observatory is situated amidst a large mass of water of the lake. It was built in 1976 by Dr. Arvind Bhatnagar and is inspired by the Big Bear Lake in Southern California.

Stone Dam:

Another key element of the lake is the stone dam situated on the eastern side of the lake to control the flow of water.

Timings: 10 am to 5 pm

Entry Fees: No entry fee for the lake

Boating Charges: INR 200 (per person) for speed boating

The tourists visiting the lake can enjoy boating in the blue waters and there are also a large number of stalls selling street food. For those who want to enjoy the view may also take a drive around the lake on Moti Magri for a pleasing and soothing experience.
