The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi begins today. The people across the nation are highly excited to welcome Ganpati Bappa at their homes. To celebrate this festival, the preparations are in full swing. The festival is celebrated to mark the birthday of Lord Ganesha. Also known as Vinayaka Chavithi or Vinayaka Chaturthi, it is one of the most popular festivals of India. Significance and Celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi

It is observed in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Rajasthan, Telangana, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh. Revered as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune, Ganesha is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Considered as Vighnaharta, Lord Ganesh is worshipped before every auspicious ceremony. He is known to ward off the evil eye and averts obstacles. Ganesha has 108 different names.

People bring lord Ganpati to their homes on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. It is 10-day celebration which begins on Shukla Paksha Chaturthi of Bhaadrapada and end after 10 days on Anant Chaturdashi. These 10-days appear like a gala celebration as their exchange greetings, buy new clothes, eat and dance. Many people set up pandals and carry out processions on streets. It is that time of the year when the air is filled with joy, vigor, aromas, colours and artistic flavours. On the last day, people give farewell to Bappa by amidst chants of Ganpati Bappa Moreya, Pudhchya Varshi Lokarya. The idol of Ganpati Bappa is immersed in water.
