If there’s something that can stand at par with the rich culture and heritage of Rajasthan, it’s got to be the Rajasthani cuisine. Just like the culture of the state, it too has multiple colors. A fact that never fails to amaze the food lovers here is how a cuisine can be so intricate despite the dearth of available ingredients. To amaze them more, here is a list of the favorite beverages in Rajasthan.

Raabdi

This exclusive beverage of the state bespeaks the intrinsic warm attitude of the people here. Made of Bajra (pearl millet), Raabdi is as beneficial for your health as delicious it is. It contains high quantities of calcium, vitamins, iron, and fiber.  The slightly salty taste, feel-good warm temperature, and the soup-like consistency of Raabdi will immediately make you a patron of the drink. And what more? You can consume as much of the drink without having to worry about any side-effects unless you don’t want to feel relaxed instantly, as the beverage is also quite high on relaxing agents! To whom else does Rabdi sound like the elixir of Rajasthan?

Jal-Jeera

The tangy cool homemade summer drink of Rajasthanis’ is the shortest definition of Jal-jeera. As an antidote to the scorching sun of the Thar, Jal-Jeera has a tingling taste, a product of the numerous ingredients (yes, jeera or cumin seeds doesn’t make the whole composition) that goes into its making. It consists balanced amount of ginger, black pepper, cumin seeds, black salt, mint, amchoor (dried mango powder), and lemon juice. Jal-jeera works as a great appetizer and its cooling effects makes it an ideal match for the hot and spicy Rajasthani food.

Thandai

Rajasthanis have yet another chilled beverage to fight off the hot climatic conditions. Thandai, as the name says is the traditional cold drink for the people in Rajasthan. Unlike Jal-jeera it has a sweet tingling taste which makes it a good alternative for dessert, something that gets a contribution from the drink’s thick consistency and nutty texture.  Mostly consumed on the festivals like Shivratri and Holi, Thandai is often mixed with cannabis to give it a hint of mild intoxication.

Chhachh

One of the easiest made beverages, chhachh, is also one of the best drinks to relish in Rajasthan. It is considered to be the best comestible in Rajasthan to counter dehydration. Essentially made by churning yogurt with chilled water, Chhachh is usually seasoned with a little salt, mint, and roasted cumin seeds. These simple spices do not only improve the taste of the drink but also enhances its nutritional values, a substantial part of which is an improvement in the digestive system.
