One of the most famous monuments in Rajasthan, Moosi Maharani Ki Chhatri is a striking cenotaph of historical significance. The dual attraction of the Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri with a lot of historical significance and a splendid architecture manages to attract a large number of tourists.
Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri is a double-storeyed structure, built by Vinay Singh in the year 1815 in the memory of Alwar’s ruler, Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh and his queen, Rani Moosi who committed ‘sati’ (self immolation on her husband’s pyre). This beautiful cenotaph shelters the tomb of the king and the queen and the entire chhatri is supported by pillared sandstone.
The architectural grandeur gives the monument a spectacular view. It is a two-storey building made of red sandstone and based on many small white marble pillars. There are also many domed pavilions on the ground floor. The elephant structural design based on pillars of red sandstone is an attention grabbing piece in the monument.
The upper storey is in marble stones housing unusual rounded roofs, splendid bends and arches. The insides of the structure are highly ornamented with intricate carvings, astounding mythological wall paintings and frescoes on its ceiling.
The complex also provides a visual treat to its tourists with hundreds of colourful birds and peacocks moving around the place. The picturesque location of the Aravallis, the lush green foliage and colourful flowers add to the charm of the place. There is likewise a colossal water tank found near the chhatri.
