These 'Makrana' stones were brought from Rajasthan to build the Taj Mahal.
'Makrana' is a type of marble stone. This is the best quality marble stone of white color. That is why most of it is used to make decorations and statues of buildings. Calcium is abundant in 'Makrana' stone. There is no leakage and absorption of water at all. This is the reason that the color and glow of buildings made of 'Makrana' stones persist for years. In addition to the white color, 'Makrana' stone is also found in gray and pink colors.
The 'Makrana' stone is found in Makrana tehsil of Nagaur district of Rajasthan. The 'Makrana' stone is mined in different hills of the Aravali ranges, located here, such as Dungri, Devi, Ulodi, Sabwali, Mountain Kua etc. It is believed that the mine at Mountain Kua is the place from where stones were extracted to make the Taj Mahal. The 'Makrana' stone mining has become a major source of employment for most of the population here today.
