The Palace on Wheels
The Palace on Wheels is the most popular luxury train in India. It was launched by Indian Railways in association with Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) to promote tourism in Rajasthan.
It is the one of the oldest running trains in India which was started on January 26, 1982. The train was refurbished and re-launched in August 2009 with a new décor, itinerary, cuisine, and modern facilities like WiFi and Satellite TV.
The train is operational from September to April every year and reservations can be made online for an itinerary of 7 nights and 8 days which commences on every Wednesday at 4 pm.
The train starts its journey from Safdarjung Railway Station in New Delhi and travels through Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittaurgarh, Udaipur, Jaisalmer , Jodhpur , Bharatpur and Agra in the next 7 days. On the 8th day, the train travels back to Delhi concluding its royal and luxurious journey.
Royal Rajasthan on Wheels
Following the success of Palace on Wheels, the Indian Railways launched the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels in January 2009. It is modeled on the basis of the Palace on Wheels and follow a similar route and itinerary.
The train has beautiful interiors and offers excellent service and hospitality.
It offers the itinerary of 8 nights and 7 days which begins on every Sunday from October to April.
The train starts from New Delhi's Safdarjung railway station, and has stops at Jodhpur, Udaipur, Chittaurgarh , Ranthambore National Park, Jaipur, Khajuraho , Varanasi, Sarnath , and Agra on Day 7.The train starts and ends its journey at Delhi.
