The Indian Army has drawn a plan to prepare a makeover of the Jaisalmer Military Station so as to develop it as a smart facility in lines with the center’s smart cities. As per Defence Spokesperson Lt Col Manish Ojha, the army has prepared a detailed plan in compliance with the 8 key areas identified by the central government for the smart city mission.
Lt Colonel Ojha said that this move will provide a major boost to the local economy while supporting ecological conservation. Reportedly, a systematic development of the military station is being carried out by making use of the concept of smart buildings and green building norms.
Several areas have been taken care of in the plan like provisions for rainwater harvesting, solar water heater, centralized garbage disposal system, LED lighting, solar security lights, underground electric cabling, and LPG supply through a pipeline.
Besides, there will also be an Astroturf hockey ground, an auditorium, shopping complex, and a Sainik Institute at the center of the station to provide easy accessibility. The sports complex will be quite spacious containing volleyball, tennis and basketball courts. In addition, there will be an athletic track, a gymnasium, and courts for squash and indoor badminton.
Apart from the above-mentioned elements, special attention has been given to preserve the ecological balance. For this, a herbal garden has been developed at the station and a special ecology force has been directed to plant 1 Lakh trees every year. Paying heed to the health and of the troops and families, the army has also planned to develop a state-of-the-art military hospital to ensure their wellbeing.
