Government frames norms for organ transplant

JAIPUR: The finance department issued guidelines for transplant surgery in the state, empowering government medical colleges to authorize referrals.

Under the guidelines, department has laid down referral procedure for patient who will receive any of the organ transplant as well as who would be approving authority for such referrals.

Patient who will receive the organ transplant particularly liver, kidney, heart, lung and bone marrow will be referred by a committee of two specialists. Committee will have one head of the department (HoD) or professor and one of any other concerned/associated specialist for that particular procedure.

Authorization of referral will be vested with any government medical college of Rajasthan or medical colleges run by RUHS. Rajasthan has been in forefront in conducting transplant surgeries. Off late there has been successful heart, kidney and skin transplants surgeries in the state.
