UDAIPUR: The French have a fabulous way of celebrating life: always with food and drink. Or if you will they celebrate food and drink at every and any occasion like Good France did on March 21st. The prelude was as follows: A total of 2,000 chefs across all five continents joined the event on the eve of spring. Dinners were served simultaneously in participating restaurants honouring the merits of French cuisine, its capacity for innovation, and its values: sharing, and respecting the principles of high-quality, environmentally responsible cuisine.
A select group got a taste of it way before the culmination. A special evening was arranged by Atout France in collaboration with The Fateh Prakash Palace – HRH Group of Hotels, Udaipur, Champagne Ardenne Tourism Board through which was produced a fine-dining menu prepared by Eric Geoffroy and Wine Park, which encouraged guests to sip a Christian Moreau Chablis with Chef Eric's Trilogy of Scallops; the entree with a Saint Cosme Cotes du Rhone, and so on until even the exotic dessert of steamed egg with old vinegar cacao powder and its Ratafia jelly on its cacao curry crumble bed was paired with a heady Laurent Perrier Brut Rose.
Fine dining is one thing, but the essence becomes more special with the ambience. This one heightened the senses with its location: Manek Chowk with the breathtaking backdrop of the Mardana Mahal of the City Palace, reminding diners about an era gone by, but yet, ever present, especially since the Maharaja Arvind Singh Mewar was also at dinner that evening with his family.
