Dausa is also known as "Dev Nagari." Dausa was the first capital of the Dhundhar region. The name is derived from Sanskrit word "Dhau and Sa", where 'Dhau' means 'Like Heaven' (Swarg sa) and 'Sa' is 'Beautiful' (Sundar), with a literal translation meaning 'Beautiful like Heaven'. As of 2011 India Census, Dausa is ranked 20th in terms of population, 3rd in terms of population density and 32nd in terms of area. The region has its own unique singing style known as Hela-Khayal. It is unique as this highly traditional singing style comment on the current socio-economic-political scenario in a satirical manner.
