Bundi is a picturesque location that provides the true fragment of the past of India. This slightly off road tourist place is located at 39 km north-west of Kota. This captivating little town is famous for the Taragarh Fort which itself is an elegant piece of Rajput architecture. Rudyard Kipling, who is well known for his short stories and the famous The Jungle Book, praised the beauty of the fort by saying, "The Taragarh Fort must have been built by angels not by human beings".
Wrapped in the valley of the Aravalli range, this place remained relatively confined and separate. The neighboring Chambal River provides the space for water adventures.
However, the town of Bundi comes alive every November with an astonishing artistic 3 day festival called Bundi Utsav. A cultural event filled with classical music, folk dance, sports like horse riding, camel race and kabaddi, different competitions like moustache and turban-tying, and fireworks animate the streets and attracts the locals from nearby villages.
The amazing mix of Rajasthani royalty, attires, traditional art, handicrafts and home decors are found during the three days of the Bundi Utsav. The artistry of the local household comes to life when the Bundi Fair displays it all for sale. During this time, many foreign tourists love to visit Bundi to have a classic collection of the traditional handicrafts and be enchanted with the various cultural programs like dance, music, competitions and sports.
The fair which is organized by the Rajasthan State Tourism Department delights every traveler with its splendid charisma of traditional customs associated with the differnt events like Shobha Yatra or procession, cultural programs, fold dance performances, bridal attire competitions, ethnic sports and sparkling fireworks.
According to the estimate of The Rajasthan Tourism Board, 90% of the region actively participates in the festivities, along with the few hundred tourists that come here who are graciously invited to participate in the competitions.
Even outside the festival dates, for any traveler who is passing through southern Rajastan, Bundi is a great halt, as it has great heritage hotels and traditional havelis to offer along with affordable delicious Rajasthani cuisine.
