Amrita Haat is a 5-day celebration that aims at empowering women and encourages them to showcase their entrepreneurship skills. It’s an initiative by the Department of Women and Child Development to strengthen the position of women belonging to Self Help Groups. It’s an endeavor of the state government that provides a platform to women where they can set up stalls and exhibit products made by them.
In 2016, the event was carried out on a large scale and witnessed participation from women’s self-help groups belonging to Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Uttarakhand.
This fair is all about showcasing the talent of women and their skills at making handicrafts items. It’s an exhibit-cum-sale where the culture of Rajasthan is reflected through stalls presenting loads of finely crafted items. Right from accessories to decorative items and from handloom to artifacts, the fair is an exceptional hub of exquisite hand-made objects.
Prominent items that are found at the event include artificial jewelry, diyas, marble products, clothes embroidered with zari work, terracotta items, puppets, designer candles, paintings, pottery, miniature items, etc. Besides, some stalls also display food items like jams, pickles, spices, and papad.
It’s a great effort by the government that aims to promote the financial well being of women and also encourages them to come forward and to show their talent. Not only they earn money but they also get the joy of being independent and empowered. The footfall witnessed by the event is huge and the amount of sales is also quite tremendous. The Amrita Haat 2017 event is going to be organized in Udaipur at the Gandhi Ground. It will commence on 16th December and will go on until 20th December.
