Udaipur is going to host a three-day orchid festival at Sajjangarh Biological Park from July 27 to July 29. The festival has been organized at the parking space of the biological park. It’s going to be one of the first kinds of event in Rajasthan that will showcase 18 different varieties of orchids that are found only in the southern and north-eastern parts of the state.
This Orchid Festival is being organized by the Forest Department to exhibit the indigenous orchid varieties found in the southern and eastern parts of Rajasthan. Interestingly, Rajasthan possesses an orchid belt ranging from Todgarh-Raoli to Mount Abu in Sirohi which extends up to Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary till Kundakoh area of Baran district.
Besides, the Phulwari Ki Naal Wildlife Sanctuary hosts many species of epiphytic and terrestrial orchids owing to the presence of the largest Mahua (Madhuca indica) groves.
The objective behind organizing this event is to spread awareness among the residents and tourists regarding the knowledge of orchids and their varieties. Apart from the varieties of orchids on display, the plants will also be offered for sale. These beautiful blooming flowers are colorful, fragrant, and astounding to look at.
While most of the people know about orchids being extremely beautiful flowers commonly used for decoration, many species are also used as a traditional system of medicines used for remedial measures in several ailments like joint pain, eye disorder, bone fracture, acidity, nervous disorders, etc.
